Find Your Perfect Fit
Your wedding shoes should feel as lovely as they look. Follow our guide to choosing your size and fit, with personal advice from our team whenever you need it.
Start with your usual shoe size, choose the right width, then check the Fit & Sizing notes for your exact style.
1. Find your size
Use the size you normally wear in well-fitting occasion shoes as your starting point. If you shop in US, EU or Australian sizes, use our Charlotte Mills conversion chart to find your UK equivalent.
| UK | EU | US | AU |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2 | 35 | 4.5 | 4 |
| 3 | 36 | 5.5 | 5 |
| 4 | 37 | 6.5 | 6 |
| 5 | 38 | 7.5 | 7 |
| 6 | 39 | 8.5 | 8 |
| 7 | 40 | 9.5 | 9 |
| 8 | 41 | 10.5 | 10 |
| 9 | 42 | 11.5 | 11 |
Conversions are a starting point; check the fit advice for the shoe you are ordering. Available sizes are shown on each product page.
2. Choose Standard or Wide Fit
Choose Standard Fit if your usual shoes fit comfortably across the front of your foot. Consider EE Wide Fit if you usually wear wide-fit shoes, find standard shoes tight across the front, or buy a larger size mainly to gain extra width.
Our EE Wide Fit gives additional room through the widest part of the foot. Choose your usual UK size in Wide Fit rather than going up a size in Standard Fit.
For example: if your usual size is UK 4 and you need extra width, choose UK 4 EE Wide Fit, not UK 5 simply to gain more room.
How materials feel on your feet
The material of your chosen shoe can also affect how the fit feels.
- Mesh: mesh styles have a little more give and may also suit a slightly wider foot. Check the fit notes for your chosen style; if you usually need EE Wide Fit, start with our Wide Fit options or ask us which mesh style could suit you.
- Leather: our soft leather softens and gives gently with wear, adapting to your feet over time. Your shoes should still feel comfortable when you first try them on, without painful tightness or pinching.
- Satin: our leather-lined satin styles combine a satin outer with soft leather against your feet. The satin outer has less give, so choosing the right size and width from the start is important.
Comfort in every step. Our shoes feature soft, cushioned insoles for extra comfort beneath your feet, so you can enjoy every moment from the aisle to the dancefloor. Don't just take our word for it: you will see comfort features in many of our reviews.
3. Check your chosen style
The Fit & Sizing section on each product page tells you how that exact shoe fits. Check the full style name, colour, heel height and Standard or Wide Fit version, as guidance can differ.
| Fit advice on the product page | Which size should I choose? |
|---|---|
| True to size | Choose your usual UK size. If you are between sizes, choose the smaller size. |
| True to size with a slightly generous feel | Choose your usual UK size. If you are between two sizes, choose the smaller size. |
| Slightly generous fit | Choose your usual UK size. If you are between sizes, choose the smaller size. If you have slim or narrow feet, consider sizing down for a more secure fit. |
| EE Wide Fit | Choose your usual UK numerical size in EE Wide Fit rather than sizing up in Standard Fit. If you are between sizes, choose the smaller size in EE Wide Fit. |
| Structured, close-fitting shape | Choose your usual UK size, or the smaller size if you are between sizes. If you have slim feet and the shoe feels fractionally roomy, our Silicone Sole Inserts for Closed Toe Shoes may help fine-tune the fit. |
Already comfortable in one size? Keep that as your starting point. A slightly generous fit does not mean everyone should go down a size.
Usually a half size? Choose the smaller of the two sizes. For example, if you usually wear UK 5.5, choose UK 5 in the appropriate Standard or EE Wide Fit. If you have a particular fit concern, contact our team before ordering.
4. Unsure? Let us help you choose one pair
If you are considering ordering two sizes to compare, contact us first. We can help you choose a starting size based on your usual fit and the exact style you love.
Send us:
- The shoe name or product link, including the heel height and colour.
- Your usual shoe size and whether it is UK, EU, US or AU sizing.
- Whether you usually wear Standard or Wide Fit.
- A brand and style you already wear comfortably, with its size.
- What you find difficult: tightness across the front, slipping at the heel, strap fit, or being between sizes.
- Your wedding or dress-fitting date if timing is important.
5. Little extras for a more secure fit
Our silicone accessories add grip and cushioning and can help fine-tune the fit of your chosen pair.
| What would you like help with? | Choose this accessory |
|---|---|
| A closed-toe shoe feels fractionally roomy, particularly on a slim foot | Silicone Sole Inserts: Closed Toe Shoes. Designed for closed-toe styles such as Mia, adding grip and cushioning beneath the front of your foot. |
| You would like extra grip and cushioning in a sandal | Silicone Sole Inserts: Sandal. Designed for sandal styles such as Katie, placed beneath the front of your foot. Ideal if your foot is sliding forward in the shoe. |
| You would like additional grip and cushioning at the back of a shoe with a heel counter | Silicone Heel Grips. Placed inside the heel counter to help the shoe feel secure. |
Choose your correct size and width first. Accessories are useful for small fit adjustments; if your shoes pinch or feel significantly too loose, contact us for sizing advice.
6. Check the fit at home
Try both shoes indoors on a clean carpet, keeping the original protective film on the soles in place. Adjust the straps and take a few gentle steps.
- Your feet should feel supported without painful pressure or pinching.
- Your toes should not feel crushed, and your foot should sit securely without sliding forward.
- A slingback should stay in place when you walk after adjusting it comfortably.
- If the fit feels wrong, contact us before wearing the shoes in or outside.
- Silicone inserts or heel grips can help fine-tune a fractionally roomy shoe. They should not be used to compensate for the wrong size or width.
